Cornwall walks and attractions

Caerhays, Saint Austell, PL26 6LY

Lovely estate on the coast that is open to the public in the spring when the Camellias, Rhododendrons and Magnolias are stunning. Lovely cafe in the courtyard plus a beautiful beach and the South Coast path for walks.

Loe Pool, Helston, OS reference SW 652237

National Trust

The largest freshwater lake in Cornwall with a 6 mile walk around it. The lake is separated from the sea by a shingle and sand bar. As well as the walk right around the lake there are numerous other paths to explore.

Penlee House Gallery and Museum, Penzance, TR18 4HE

Although the museum and art gallery do not allow dogs inside, the park in which they are situated is lovely for walks and the cafe serves a lovely selection of food, including gluten free.

Sennen Cove, TR19 7DG

As well as the beach, Sennen Cove is on the coast path. For a short walk, the walk up to the old coastguard lookout is a nice one and you can either come back the same way or loop round behind Sennen Cove and come back through the path behind Sennen Heights. For a longer walk, the path to Lands End is spectacular with great views of the coast and heath land.

Alternatively, for a longer walk, you can walk above the beach to Gwynver beach which is totally dog friendly all year round. If the tide is out, you can return along the beach.

Siblyback lake, Liskeard, PL14 6ER

Beautiful place with campsite, activity centre and cafe. The walk around the lake is about 3.1 miles on a good path which is pretty flat. There are lots of seats so you can take the walk at your own pace and stop and enjoy the view. In addition, about 200 metres past the campsite (away from the activity centre and cafe), there is a large enclosed dog field with short and long grass, trees and a bench so dogs can have a good run around. Dogs are supposed to be kept on the lead around the lake and out of the water – this is not only because they are working reservoirs but also because of the risk of blue/green algae which is toxic to dogs.

Trebah Gardens, Falmouth TR11 5JZ

A gorgeous dog friendly garden with beautiful flowers, trees and a beach. Also a good cafe with outdoor tables and a few indoor tables for people with dogs.

Treemenheere Sculpture Gardens,  Penzance TR20 8YL

A variety of sculptures set in both open ground and within the woods. From the highest point there are lovely views over the bay towards St Michael’s Mount. Cafe in the grounds.

Recommendations from Dave

Cardinham Woods (PL30 4AL) has a nice walk and nice café

Lanhydrock (PL30 4AB) and Respryn (PL30 4AH) also have nice walks and an outside dog friendly café at Lanhydrock

Golitha Falls (PL14 6RX) is fun for the dogs and the café in the car park is interesting Minions too with a nice Pub and Café (PL14 5LE) in the village

There is a good dog field at Moorgate Farm (no facilities but fully enclosed) suitable for meet ups – near Roughtor. On Facebook as Moorgate dog training field (PL32 9QH)

The problem Devon and Cornwall have is that SW Lakes ban dogs in the water – otherwise an enclosed area and a café is perfect at most of the Reservoirs

Further into Cornwall, Godrevy is perfect with nice Café (TR27 5ED)
