Dog friendly cafes and pubs

We do love a good cafe when we are out and about – mainly just coffee and maybe a cake, occasionally for something more. All the cafes listed accept dogs although this might only be at outside tables. As I am gluten free, if the gluten free food is particularly good, I will mention this specifically.

Just recently we are seeing cafes close down permanently due to the current economic crises. The independent coffee trader in Tiverton and Nature made which became the Fabulous sprout in South Molton have both closed down this year. I will try to keep this page up to date but sometimes the first I know of a closure is when we go to visit it and it’s gone.

South West

All the St Austell Brewery pubs are dog friendly – and I can certainly vouch for the Old Success Inn at Sennen Cove where we have stayed. The link below will take you to their page which the map showing where they are located. They have also started doing a dog beer!

Very dog friendly cafe and excellent coffee. We found this after our previous favourite – the Independent Coffee Trader closed down. It’s tucked down an alley just off the main road. They were incredibly friendly. Our waitress seated us and immediately fetched water and dog biscuits before coming back to take our order.

They also have a separate dog menu with puppucino, sausage and pupcakes available.

Not just dog friendly throughout the whole place including the cafe, but it took us about 20 minutes to get from the entrance to the coffee because so many people stopped to talk to our dogs.

As well as the usual things you find in a garden centre, there’s also a separate pet store.

Yorkshire

LeedsBill’s restaurant, LS1 6JL

bills-website.co.uk

A dog friendly restaurant in the centre of Leeds (there is an NCP car park very close to the restaurant which is convenient, if rather expensive).

The menu was eclectic and the staff were very friendly and welcoming

Skipton Kibble Bakery, BD23 1HY

https://kibblebakery.com/

Top of my list for a dog friendly cafe. They have a separate dog menu and were totally unphased when Morwenna pulled her Christmas pudding loaf off the table and on to the floor, inevitably leaving crumbs all over the place.

Skipton is a traditional Yorkshire town – just the right size to potter around and with a canal running through it for an enjoyable walk.

Finally managed to get back to Kibble bakery in October 2022 which confirmed my feeling that it is the most dog friendly cafe that I have been to. We treated Morwenna and Jenna to “Don’t go bacon my heart” pupcakes and CapPawcchino on the first day and cheesy donuts on the second. The human coffee and selection of cakes is also really good.

SkiptonThe White Lion, Kildwick, BD20 9BH

Lovely pub, 2 minutes walk from Canal Cottage (see self catering places) which welcomes dogs and has a good selection of food.
